Sleeping Tricks For Your Newborn

You think your new baby is amazing and he truly is wonderful.  That is until he won’t go to sleep.  When your baby doesn’t sleep neither do you.  So here are some time tested tips to help your baby fall asleep so you can get some sleep too.

Just like a bath relaxes you, it can also relax a baby.  Place the baby in a warm bath and use a soft washcloth to give small strokes to your baby.  Also keep your voice low so that this becomes a relaxing time for baby and you.  After your baby is toweled off dry and warm in his pj’s, rock him to sleep.  While you’re doing this avoid eye contact with your baby.  Eye contact with your baby is stimulating.  So avoid the eye contact when you are trying to get your baby to sleep.

You know that you need a schedule for feeding your baby; you also need a regular schedule for your baby to sleep.  So find a time that suits yours and baby’s schedule and put baby to sleep the same time every night.  This time can be as early as 7:00 PM.  This early time allows you some down time as well.

Something as simple as the wrong kind of pajamas can disrupt your baby’s sleep.  Babies have very sensitive skin and pajamas made of synthetic material can cause skin irritation Changing to sleepers made of organic material just might help your baby sleep through the night.

If you rock your baby to sleep when you place your baby in the crib, place you hand on the baby to reassure him that he is not alone.  You also want to keep the room temperature just right.  A temperature of 65 to 70 degrees is best for baby.  Also turn off the light when you put him down to sleep.

Many babies like to have pacifiers as they fall asleep, and that is just fine.  You may want to remove the binky when the baby falls asleep.  Many babies wake up when the binky falls out of their mouth when they are sleeping.  Your baby finds your voice very soothing so read to him as you are trying to get him to sleep.

Your baby’s world was very small and confined for nine months.  That is why swaddling your baby may help him to fall asleep.  You can use any blanket to swaddle your baby and they even make swaddling blankets.

Sound can also help your baby to fall asleep.  You can try music, and use music that baby may have heard in the womb.  Many parents have also found that white noise also helps babies to sleep.  You can purchase a white noise cd, or even a radio between stations can produce a white noise like sound.
